Gadhimai Multiple Campus was established in 2009 AD (2066 BS) as a community-owned institution. The campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Nepal. GMC currently offers a bachelor-level program in Education and focuses on serving students who face economic and social barriers to continuing higher education.

The campus works in an area where many families are described as low-income and dependent on daily labor. The campus community includes students from Indigenous (Janajati) communities such as the Tharu community, as well as Dalit, Muslim, and other marginalized groups.
The campus also highlights barriers that affect continuation in higher education, especially for female students:
Difficulty managing tuition and basic living needs such as food and clothing
Limited family support to complete higher studies
Early marriage pressures, including dowry-related financial burdens on families
Childbirth and childcare responsibilities
These factors are described as contributing to higher dropout rates in later years of study.
